About John YATO
John Yato was born near the scenic view of the Fuji mountains in Japan. The tranquil surrounding of trees, small trees and rice fields influenced his artwork. He began doing art in first grade and was able to express his thoughts through drawing. At the age of 9, his family decided to move to Southern California and eventually ended up in San Diego in 1959. Faced with the difficulty of learning English as a second language, drawing became means of everyday communication. In senior year of high school he received the artist of the year award. He also attended San Diego City College and obtained a commercial arts degree. This is where watercolor painting was introduced, from his instructor Mr. Harvey Adams, whom to this day he admires and is thankful for his teaching. After graduated from college, he worked as a commercial artist doing illustration and layout design for 16 years. Working there, he learned and developed many aspects of art. His artwork captures many concepts as you can see through his website. "Art has to be diversified since we live in a world of diversities", simply said. Alot of his work is influenced from the city of San Diego, with its beautiful beaches and buildings. Other works come from different countries such as Europe, Japan, and more. Watercolor painting has become his true passion. Water is everywhere and without it, human cease to exist. In comparison, without watercolor painting, human cease to express.
